Today’s Google doodle: Search engine Google on Sunday dedicated a doodle to
India's 75th
Independence Day,
which is associated with the country's centuries-old historical progress and is
inspired by the country's cultural heritage.
On the occasion of Independence Day on August 15, Google honored India's freedom struggle by
displaying a new doodle on its homepage. The doodle was painted by Kolkata
artist Sayan Mukherjee.
On India's
Independence Day 2021,
Google said in a statement, "At midnight on this day in 1947, the
decades-long movement for India's independence came to an end and it became a
sovereign republic. Celebrates a cultural heritage built on historical progress”.
Describing India's diverse cultural heritage in detail,
Google said the country is home to an estimated 1 billion people, one-sixth of
the world's population. There are thousands of different languages and ethnic groups in this vast ocean.
Indians in 29 states of the subcontinent celebrate their
independence and the spirit of multiculturalism as traditional dance
performances, which vary depending on the regional culture.
The Google
Doodle depicted by
Mukherjee displays various forms of Indian dance. These include Bharatanyatyam,
Bhangra, Chhau and Dandiya. The artwork reflects the classical tradition of
Bharatanatyam, the oldest Indian dance form in India, originated in Tamil
Nadu 3,000 years ago.
Drawn on the far right, there is a style of dance known
as Chhau dance, which is used by masked artists to evoke certain aspects of
Indian epics. The dance comes from the eastern states of Jharkhand, West
Bengal, and Orissa.
Speaking on the doodle, artist Sayan Mukherjee said that
when he was first called for Today’s Google doodle, he started thinking about the rich traditions, culture,
and heritage of India. "Since India is a huge country with such a diverse
population, there is only one thing that unites us all and that is unity among
diversity”.
