Government of India has launched the Sandesh app to compete with WhatsApp. This work has been going on
for a long time and it was also released to a limited number of users.
This information was given by the State Electronics and
Information Technology Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar in a written reply to a
question in the Lok Sabha. This instant messaging platform was created by the National Informatics
Center.
Talking about the National Informatics Center, it comes
under the Ministry of IT. The working style of the Sandesh app is similar to that of WhatsApp and its logo
also seems to be inspired by WhatsApp.
Users can sign up on this platform with a mobile number or
email id. At present, it is used only by Government of India employees. Apart from this, people working in government
agencies have also been given it for use.
According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Sandesh app is an open source-based secure cloud-enabled
platform hosted by Government
of India. Because its
strategic control is with the Government of India. This platform has many features. Single chat, group
messaging, file sharing, and audio-video calls can also be done from here.
Let us tell you that eGov has also been supported in this
app, it has been integrated into it. According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the app
is available on Google Play Store and App Store.
It can be downloaded from App Store or Google Play Store. After downloading you have to enter the phone number. You will be able to sign up for this app through OTP. Now it will be interesting to see if end-to-end encryption is given.
Let us tell you that the biggest feature of WhatsApp is
its encryption system. This application has the ultimate encryption. It is
claimed that without the sender or receiver no third party can read the chat,
not even the company. In such a situation, it is not possible to say whether
the end-to-end encryption will come later in the message.
If this app does not have end-to-end encryption, then it cannot compete with WhatsApp because
end-to-end encryption is a big issue when it comes to user
privacy. Data from apps can be accessed by third parties without end-to-end encryption.
The special thing about WhatsApp is its speed and some
special features. Messages get here very quickly. It will be interesting to see
if the Sandesh app matches this situation under the supervision of Government of India.
