According to the report, the respiratory rate is detected through some subtle movements in the chest to measure the respiratory rate.

And for this, the smartphone camera uses a computer vision called optical flow. For heart rate, subtle color changes in the fingertip are detected using a smartphone camera.

Shwetak Patel, Director of Google Health said, "Google Fit will allow you to measure your heart rate and respiratory rate using your phone's camera."

These features will be available in the Google Fit app for Pixel phones which is planned to expand to more Android devices.

He also said that from next month Google Fit will allow you to measure heart rate and respiratory rate using your phone's camera.

Mr. Patel also said, “To measure the breathing rate you just need to keep your head and upper house in front of your phone’s front-facing camera and then breathe evenly.”
