Social media
platforms Facebook and Instagram on Saturday banned advertisements selling
medical face masks on their platforms. So the people could not be taken
advantage of by the coronavirus emergency.
Rob Leithorn, who led the Trust /
Integrity Team on Facebook announced the decision on Twitter. He tweeted, "We
are going to ban advertisements and product listings selling medical facemasks.
We are keeping a close watch on Kovid-19 and if we find that people are
trying to take advantage of this public health emergency, we will make necessary
reforms in our policies."
The head of
Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has also supported this decision. He tweeted,
"Supply is low and prices are high.
We are against people taking advantage
of this public health emergency. We will also start it in the next few
days."
Facebook also
announced that a pop-up or information will come automatically on this platform
along with searches related to coronaviruses, which will have the necessary
instructions from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Other technology
companies are also trying to prevent price rise and health-related
misinformation. As reported by Tech
Crunch, Amazon is also working to remove 'high-priced offers' on products such
as hand sanitizers and face masks.
eBay has also banned on the listing of N95
and N100 face masks, hand sanitizers, and alcohol wipe products.
