The Snapdragon Snapdragon 720G chipsets are Wi-Fi 6-ready and tout improved 4G connectivity.
The Snapdragon 720G is a mid-range 64-bit ARM LTE
system on a chip designed by Qualcomm and introduced in early 2020. Built on
Samsung's 8nm LPP process, the 720G includes six Kryo 465 Silver
high-efficiency coring operating at 1.8 GHz with two.
The high-performance Kryo
465 Gold is operating at 2.3 GHz. This Snapdragon processor synchronizes the
process of Adreno 618 GPU at 500 MHz and features an X15 LTE modem supporting
Cat 13 uplink and Cat 15 downlink. This system chip supports up to 8 GiB of
dual-channel LPDDR4X-3733 memory.
Qualcomm has expanded the range of its mobile
platform by launching Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662, and Snapdragon 460 in
India. The new System-on-Chip (SoC) model by the company aims to provide faster
4G connectivity with support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
Qualcomm Snapdragon
720G, Snapdragon 662 and Snapdragon 460 also come with Qualcomm AI engine and
Qualcomm sensing hub to cater to the growing adoption of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) supported user experience and always-on voice assistant.
Qualcomm underlined that where 5G is becoming widespread worldwide, it will
continue to focus on building 4G-supporting technologies for regions including
India.
Smartphones powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G
are expected to start commercially in the first quarter of this year, while
handsets based on Snapdragon 662 and Snapdragon 460 are expected to arrive by
the end of this year.
Qualcomm has not revealed the list of original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) that will use the new chips. However, Realme and Xiaomi
are the two early smartphone manufacturers who are bringing smartphones with
Snapdragon 720G SoC.
In addition to the Qualcomm AI engine, the
Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662, and Snapdragon 460 SoC come with
Qualcomm location suites that concurrently support up to seven satellite
constellations and develop the Navigation Specific NAVIC that the Indian Space
Research Organization ( ISRO).
To provide accurate location performance in both
urban and remote areas of India. These are Qualcomm's first mobile chip to
support NavIC.
The Chairman of ISRO Mr. K. Sivan said that the
accessibility of NVIC on numerous mobile platforms will help in increasing the
geolocation capabilities of smartphones in the province, and Indian customers
will be benefited from this home-developed solution.
